Tournament to be first step of our country to world of big golf - Anar Mammadov

Azerbaijan will host even larger-scale golf tournaments.

The National Golf Tournament in memory of National leader Heydar Aliyev that started at the National Golf-Club will make a great contribution to development of this sport in our country.

According to Oxu.Az, the statement came from President of the Azerbaijan Golf Federation Anar Mammadov speaking to journalists.

He said the tournament which is to start on 7 June will involve local amateur golfers and foreign golf players.

“Arrangement of such an event in one of the most picturesque regions of Azerbaijan, Guba will promote the flow of foreign tourists to the region and further increase the tourism potential of the region”.

“Conduction of such a grandiose event in Azerbaijan for the first time in the South Caucasus will be the first step of our country into the world of big golf. Beginning from this tournament, our country will host bigger, larger-scale events. Today, the National Golf Club created in Guba fully responds to the world and European standards and the quality of works carried by foreign specialists is assessed as high”.

Mammadov especially noted that arrangement of such major events in the regions will also contribute to development of the country’s tourism potential:
The Federation president also spoke about our compatriots that are to take part in the first national golf tournament.

“Among the participants are our compatriots studying, working abroad and showing interest in golf for already long years. They have long been deprived of the chance to deal with their lovely sports and despite their wish to play golf, they did not have this opportunity. However, today important steps are taken to develop golf in Azerbaijan- the National Golf Club, the Baku Golf Academy were created and golf courses established.

In addition, mini-golf practice will be held with children within the framework of the tournament. I consider it very important to attract children to sports, especially to such safe and useful sports as golf, from their early ages”.
